'The Afronauts' for iPad and iPhone by Cristina De Middel booklaunching
This post is also available in: Spanish
Yesterday we launched The Afronauts book for iPad and iPhone by Cristina De Middel at Meeatings23 in Barcelona. María Cerezo, interactive storytelling editor at Ubicuo Studio and the photographer Cristina De Middel explained us how they have developed this book-app and the translation from the printed version to the iPad and iPhone version.
From the printed version to the iPad and iPhone version
The first idea we had in mind was the printed version of The Afronauts. Maria explained us that she first had a PDF of the book and then she had the printed version. The only way to understand the meaning of the book was to have the printed version of it. When she had the printed version on her hands she understood all the book, the narrative. Feeling of frustration, of being behind a window… All those meanings and concepts should also be on the iPad and iPhone version. That’s the reason we had to rethink the book in order to take advantage of all the features iPads and iPhones gives us. The aim was to enhance the story using certain iPad and iPhone features. Interactive storytelling.
Democratizing ‘The Afronauts’
The Afronauts book gets more expensive everyday. It’s nearly impossible to buy The Afronauts book for a reasonable price. We can find the last offer at Amazon for 6500$. Then it’s cheaper to buy an iPad and The Afronauts app than to buy the printed version of the book.
